Winery Philosophy:
"Bodegas Bilbaínas specialises in making vintage wines and is regarded as a leader when it comes to setting wine styles. Some of the winery's flagships are among the most famed and emblematic wines of the Rioja, foremost of which are Viña Pomal and Viña Zaco.
Changes have been introduced over the years moving towards deeper coloured red wines, with more hints of fruit and new woody tones, shortening aging times and employing more concentrated juices. Bodegas Bilbaínas has always produced estate wines. This term is in popular use today among winemakers who seek typification and distinction in their wines.
During the mid 90's the winery began a new line of wines the key distinguishing features of which were their modernity and "high expression". The first clear manifestation of this innovative spirit was La Vicalanda, a Tempranillo varietal which is named after a small vineyard located on the Viña Pomal estate.
Years later, in 2005, Vicuana, Bodegas Bilbaínas' latest enological jewel was born. This is a free style red wine that breaks away from the traditional categories of the more traditional Rioja wines and which was launched on the market with the aim of leading a new generation of wines that are destined to rule in the XXI century."
