Eye - Medium to deep purple colour with a hint of brickred at the rim. Nose - Really ripe on the nose with classic Sangiovese aromas of black cherry stone, blackberry, pepper, leather and above all a herbal, oregano edge. Also some new oak from the aging. Fine yet complex. Palate - The palate is supple and smooth on the attack, velvety and fruity with redcurrant jam and strawberry. It then fills out in the mid-palate and finishes with all the herbal elegance of top Sangiovese overlain with a touch of new oak. Creamy and long
James Suckling 91 points - Dark red. Ripe, dark red cherry, sweet pipe tobacco and aromatic herbs on the rich nose. Soft and supple throughout, with expressive floral and sweet spice notes lifting the ripe red fruit and tobacco flavors. Finishes smooth and long, with the telltale Montesodi chewy, fleshy texture. With 2011, this wine is now being labeled by the estate as Tuscana Rosso, which is a loss for Chianti Rufina.
Rich and round, this red displays cherry, plum, vanilla, iron and earth flavors on an accessible frame. Tightens up a little on the finish, but food or short-term cellaring should smooth this out. Sangiovese. Drink now through 2022. 350 cases imported.-BS

It appears a deep, purple-edged ruby red, of impressive brilliance. Solid fruit notes of wild blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and dark cherry emerge initially on the nose, gradually yielding to more pungent impressions of sage, rosemary, vanilla, and cinnamon. That spiciness segues onto the palate, and then into a finish that ends with a flourish of balsam, black pepper, and cocoa powder. The mid-palate shows alcoholic warmth and roundedness, while the tannins and acidity are noticeable, adding to the wine's overall harmony.

Then bright and fresh in the mouth, with red cherry, plum and mineral flavors. Finishes smoothly tannic, polite and persistent. One of the better young Nipozzano vintages I recall: this really does remind you of the higher-altitude, cooler Rufina zone."
